Why New Rome is for YOU!
In the Byzantine, you can experience the Neo-Pax Romana. The extremely wealthy Byzantine Empire had it all: high-level protection, plentiful open homes, fair and just laws, beautiful gardens, breathtaking beaches, an abundance of games, and spectacular churches.
The capital of the Byzantine is Constantinople, and it’s guarded to the upmost extent. Constantinople is on a peninsula (on the border between the Aegean and Black Seas). Being almost completely surrounded by water, any naval invasions would be spotted long before they arrive, and would be easily defeated by the elite army of New Rome. But it’s likely that the ship wouldn’t even be able to make it into the harbor, because there is a giant chain that spans the waters. This would stop any boat’s structure immediately.
If an enemy happened to attack by land, don’t fear. On the earthy side of Constantinople, there is a series of walls peppered with guard towers. The barriers measure 70 feet tall and 40 feet thick. No army would be able to pass that.
Inside these walls and chains is life like any other, only better. The people of the Byzantine speak dominantly Greek, but that doesn’t mean that you’re out of luck if you don’t know the language. There are schools and areas of varying cultures, so you can live near and shop among the bazaars and corner shops in your own language following your own culture.

As of now, Emperor Justinian and his wife, Empress Theodora, share the throne. That in itself is proof that the social structure is based on merit, not wealth and birth. How? Why, Empress Theodora was born a commoner. She was an actress. However, Justinian’s uncles changed the law so that the young prince and Theodora could be together.
The Justinian Code of Law is similar to the Roman Twelve Tables, but with improvements. Quite simply, the laws thatare out-of-date are abolished, and the ones that still apply are adapted for better fairness. It’s key principles state that everyone has equal treatment. The law acts the same upon commoners and kings. While on trial, one is innocent until proved guilty. In situations like a suing, the accuser, not the defendant, has the burden of proof. There ithe death penalty for serious enough crimes, keeping the empire clean.

There are many things to do for entertainment in Constantinople. There are 153 private baths, and to make sure the population is clean, there are 8 public baths in the city alone. Remember, the baths are not just for cleansing; they’re also places to socialize. You can also meet people in the 4 Forums. There are 2 theatres (always producing fantastic shows), and the Hippodrome for watching chariot races. You can also watch circuses full of jugglers and acrobats. And, one can’t forget about the ballets and dances.
For quieter amusement, you could take beauteous walks alone or with a friend along the beach or in the many blossoming gardens. There are rowboats and sail boats for when you feel like getting away or having an adventure, and there are plenty of restaurants that serve delicious foods for when you get back.

But would be life without faith? Christianity (of the Orthodox branch) was declared the official religion by Constantine, the first emperor. The greatest of all the many churches of The Byzantine is right here in Constantinople: The Hagia Sophia--meaning "Holy Wisdom." The exterior is simple-- is you can give that name to the towering pillars, arching dome and the towers that reach to Heaven itself. But however spectacular it is on the outside, it's more so on the inside. That is, constructed completely composed of marble and gold; covered in sculptures, mosaics, and jewels. This is just like the two steps of life. The outside is to represent the daily life, and the interior is like Heaven.
But if you're not a follower of Orthodox Christianity, don't worry. Remember how you would be living with people of your ethnicity and culture? You can practice your religion too, whether it be Islam, Judaism, Atheism, (the least religious religion of them all,) or something else entirely. Orthodox Christianity will not be forced upon you!

Of course, everything has to end. The way New Rome will is by the hands of the Ottomans and the Crusaders of 1214. The Ottoman Empire to the south just so happened to be very good at conquering people...
Don't worry, though. By that time, you will be up in Heaven and won't have to feel the pain.
